CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The top-seeded UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team cruised to a 19-4 five-inning victory over the fourth-seeded Wofford Terriers on Friday morning at Frost Stadium in a quarterfinal game of The 2026 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament.
With the win, UNCG reached the 40-win mark for just the second time in Head Coach
Janelle Breneman's 14 seasons at UNCG and only fourth time in program history.
UNCG's 19 runs set a new SoCon Tournament record, surpassing the previous mark of 15 set by College of Charleston against Appalachian State in 2003. It also marks the Spartans' highest-scoring game since defeating Mercer, 19-1, on March 27, 2022.
The Spartans also set a new SoCon Tournament record with 19 RBI. The previous record of 12 had been reached five times, most recently by Mercer against Samford last year.
The combined 23 runs between the two teams established another SoCon Tournament record, breaking the previous mark of 21 set by ETSU and Western Carolina in 2025.
In the fourth inning, UNCG scored 15 runs, which set a new SoCon Tournament record for runs scored in a single inning. The previous record was 13, set by College of Charleston against Appalachian State in 2003.
The Spartans' 15-run margin of victory also set a new tournament record, surpassing the previous mark of 14, where College of Charleston (15) won over Appalachian State (1) in 2003.
UNCG's 15-run inning was its highest-scoring inning since March 2, 2025, when the Spartans scored 10 runs in the second inning of a 16-4 victory over Elon.
The Spartans finished with 17 hits, marking their 23
rd game this season with double-figure hits. It is the most hits since Feb. 16, 2025, when UNCG had 18 against Toledo.
Macy Michael went 2-for-3 with two runs, four RBI and a home run. Her homer in the fourth inning marked the 100
th hit of her collegiate career.
The Spartans are now 40-17 overall and the Terriers are 34-18 overall.
