AVCA Announces Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. –
The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team received the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, announced by the organization on Thursday.

Volleyball programs from across the country continue to enjoy widespread success off the court as 1,432 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award by maintaining a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale).

The UNCG volleyball team recorded a 3.54 GPA on the 2025-26 academic year.

"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."

The Southern Conference (SoCon), saw all nine 2025-26 institutions from the league recognized in total, including UNCG, ETSU, Mercer, Furman, Chattanooga, Wofford, Samford, Western Carolina and The Citadel.

UNCG recorded a 17-12 overall record and a 9-7 mark in The Southern Conference (SoCon) last season. The fifth-seeded Spartans defeated No. 4 Chattanooga in a SoCon Tournament Quarterfinal match, advancing to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. The season was concluded with a 3-1 battle against No. 1 ETSU in the SoCon Semifinals.
