GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team will continue its four-game non-conference homestand, hosting the University of Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday at UNCG Soccer Stadium at noon.
 
The Hawkeyes are entering the contest receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll and are No. 19 in TopDrawerSoccer's rankings.
 
This will be the second all-time meeting between the two teams. Iowa claimed a 3-0 victory on Sept. 8, 2019, in Greensboro.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

• The Spartans concluded the 2025 season 4-12-3 overall and 2-4-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
• The Blue & Gold tallied five shutouts and scored 22 goals, which is the most since the 2022 season.
• UNCG defeated No. 10 VMI, 2-0, in the first round of the 2025 SoCon Tournament but fell to second-seeded Western Carolina, 4-3 (OT), in the SoCon Quarterfinal round to conclude the season.
• The Spartans began the 2026 season with two exhibitions, including at Virginia Tech and at Davidson.
• The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 43 points.
• Senior midfielder Rina Ogimoto was named to the 2026 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team, the league announced Monday.
• Ogimoto started in all 19 games last season for the Blue & Gold with a total of 1,465 minutes. She notched a team-best six goals and 14 points, along with two assists, during the 2025 campaign.
• The Spartans added nine newcomers to a roster of 18 returners.
• Sophomore Laney Smith is leading the Spartans' offense with three points (1G, 1A).
• Classmate Madison Bass and junior Bryanna Parkes also have a goal each this season.
• Freshman goalkeeper Blythe Clark has started and played all 180 minutes to start the season totaling six saves and allowing two goals.
• The Spartans opened 2026 with a 1-0 victory over Triad rival High Point, marking its first season-opening win since 2023.

ABOUT THE HAWKEYES

• Iowa concluded the 2025 season 12-5-4 overall and 6-2-3 in the Big Ten.
• The Hawkeyes rose to as high as No. 5 in the national rankings in 2025, which marked a program record.
• Iowa earned an at-large bid to the 2025 NCAA Tournament, earning a No. 5 seed, marking its third-straight appearance and sixth overall.
• Head Coach Dean Ward is entering his first season with the Hawkeyes after two seasons at Xavier.
• The Hawkeyes enter the contest against the Spartans 2-1, with shutout wins over Milwaukee (7-0) and Loyola Chicago (5-0), before falling to No. 11 Wake Forest (2-0).
• Elle Wildman, Sofia Bush and Millie Greer were named Big Ten Players to Watch for the 2026 season.
• Greer, Iba Oching and Bush received 2026 United Soccer Coaches Women's Players to Watch recognition.
• Bush and Greer came in 57^th and 72^nd, respectively, on TopDrawerSoccer's Preseason Women's National Top 100 rankings.
• Berit Parten is pacing the team with six points (2G, 2A), while Wildman has five points (2G, 1A) and Berley Binggeli has four points (2G).
• Braelynn Galt has started and played in all 270 minutes, giving up two goals and tallying six saves.

The Spartans wrap up the homestand this week, hosting Coastal Carolina on Thursday and then Radford on Sunday both at 6:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. All regular season home games are free admission.
