GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 14 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team (1-0-1) played out a 0-0 draw with the San Francisco Dons (0-1-1) at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Sunday night, neither team able to capitalize on solid chances.
Goalkeeper
Seth Wilson stood tall for the Spartans to post his first shutout of the season with seven stops, posting three in the first half and four in the second.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first chance of the game went to the visiting Dons, a low header through traffic cleared off the line in the seventh minute. Momentum swung the way of the home side after, UNCG furiously pushing for an opener over the next 20 minutes.
Lasse Dahl had the first of several attempts on the night turned away by San Francisco goalkeeper Lucas Jones in the 19
th minute.
Caleb Borneo was next to try his luck in the 26
th, only to see his rocket of an effort denied by a team save.
Tiago Campos had a go a minute later, once again halted by Jones.
Dahl had the best chance of the first half for the Blue & Gold just past the half-hour mark, cutting inside and unleashing a powerful effort that was just tipped past the far post by another solid save. Wilson would be called upon twice more at the other end, delivering both times to keep the match knotted at 0-0 heading into the intermission.
The Dons surged forward to start the second half, forcing three more saves out of Wilson in the first 30 minutes of the frame before Dahl could put his third attempt of the night on target at 75:04. The best chance of the half came in the 87
th minute, a cross picking out the head of
Kirky Watson right in front of goal, but the freshman was unable to direct a shot past Jones.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- While the Dons led in shots, 17-6, UNCG put all six attempts on target to seven for San Francisco.
- Sunday night marked the first shutout of the year for the Spartans after posting seven in 2025.
- One goal allowed through two games is the fewest since 2024, when UNCG opened the season with consecutive shutouts.
- Fouls were a constant on Sunday, as the Dons were whistled 13 times and UNCG 10 times; five yellow cards were also issued.
