GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team fell to RV Iowa, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
Iowa controlled the first 45 minutes, generating 11 shots and nine corner kicks. With 14 seconds remaining in the first half, the Hawkeyes' Reilly Heman headed the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage before the break.
The Hawkeyes added three goals early in the second half. First, Alli Macke scored at 49:18 off assists from Elle Wildman and Sofia Bush before Wildman converted a penalty kick at 50:27 for a 3-0 lead. Berit Parten pushed Iowa's lead to 4-0 in the 66
th minute and then Heman tallied her second goal of the match at 69:21 for a 5-0 cushion.
The Spartans broke through in the 76
th minute when
Magdalena Krug scored off an assist from
Summer Kaufman. The Blue & Gold continued to battle late, but Iowa held on for the 5-1 final.
