COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team dropped its season opener to South Carolina, 3-0 (8-25, 22-25, 21-25) on Friday evening in the Gamecock Classic at the Carolina Volleyball Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Spartans and Gamecocks were tied at 3-3 early before South Carolina used a 12-0 run to take control, 15-3. UNCG stopped the run and added five more points, but South Carolina closed the frame with a 10-1 stretch to secure set one, 25-8.
Set 2 – UNCG rallied from a 13-16 deficit to tie the set at 16-16 behind a 3-0 run. The Spartans stayed within striking distance and cut the margin to one, 22-21, on a kill from
Kendall Lanclos. South Carolina scored the next two points, and after UNCG extended the set, the Gamecocks claimed it, 25-22.
Set 3 – The Spartans led early, 10-6, before South Carolina worked back to tie the set at 12-12. The teams traded points until the Gamecocks used a 5-1 run to build a 21-17 advantage. UNCG answered with four of the next six points to pull within two 23-21, but South Carolina secured the sweep with the final two points.
