GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team earned a four-set victory (25-19, 21-25, 26-24, 25-23) over crosstown rival North Carolina A&T on Friday evening in the Central Carolina Clash at Corbett Sports Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Spartans broke an early tie with a 4-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. UNCG continued to maintain control down the stretch, building a 24-19 advantage before
Kendall Lanclos finished the frame with a kill for a 25-19 victory.
Set 2 – North Carolina A&T used a late push to take the second set. The Spartans narrowed the deficit to 23-21 following a block from
Hailey Clifton and
Connore' Siler-Nixon and a
Chloe Nussbaum service ace, but the Aggies claimed the final two points to even the match, 1-1.
Set 3 – UNCG rallied from an 18-14 deficit and pulled within one, 24-23, on a block from
Allie Sweet. The Spartans then tied the score at 24 with another block before an Aggie attack error and a
Mia Nicklas service ace clinched the 26-24 set win.
Set 4 – North Carolina A&T opened with a 5-0 run, but UNCG battled back to tie the set at 13. The teams remained within one point until the Spartans used a 3-0 surge to take a 24-22 lead. After the Aggies cut the margin to one, Sweet sealed the match with a kill.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sweet and Lanclos co-led the Spartans with 14 kills apiece. Sweet added three service aces, eight digs and a career-high six blocks, while Lanclos posted three aces and four blocks.
- Clifton tallied 11 kills on a career-best .421 hitting percentage.
- Gragg led the match with 37 assists.
- Nussbaum led the match defensively with 14 digs.
- Siler-Nixon registered a career-high 11 blocks.
- The Spartans totaled 51 kills, 12 service aces and 13 blocks while hitting .250 as a team.
