HARRISONBURG, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took down Delaware State on Sunday afternoon, 3-2, (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 24-26, 16-14), as part of the LD&B Insurance Invitational, hosted by James Madison in the Convocation Center.

Allie Sweet broke the UNCG volleyball program match record in kills as she notched a career-best 36 kills. The previous record was 34 kills held by Becky Moore against Chattanooga on Oct. 3, 1997.
Sunday's win marks the second consecutive season that UNCG has captured seven wins in the non-conference slate. In addition, the Spartans are now three-for-three in five set matches this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 - UNCG built an 18-12 advantage before Delaware State cut the margin to four, 20-16. The Spartans answered by claiming five of the final six points, including an ace from
Kendall Lanclos, to take the opening set, 25-17.
Set 2 - The teams battled through 13 ties in the second frame. With the score even at 21, Delaware State won three consecutive points to gain set point. UNCG fought off two set points, but the Hornets closed the frame, 25-22, to even the match.
Set 3 - After trailing 4-0 early, the Spartans rallied to tie the set at five and later used a 5-0 run to turn a 17-17 tie into a 22-17 lead. UNCG held on for a 25-20 victory, capped by a Sweet kill.
Set 4 - Delaware State led by as many as seven points before UNCG battled back to tie the score at 24. The Hornets claimed the final two points to force a decisive fifth set, 26-24.
Set 5 - Neither side led by more than three points in the final frame. With the score tied at 14, Sweet delivered a kill before a Delaware State attack error sealed the Spartans' 16-14 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sweet led all players with a career-high and program record 36 kills, while adding 17 digs, two service aces and three blocks. The double-double was the 29th of her career and sixth this season.
- Lanclos posted a career high of 20 kills, while adding two service aces.
- Izora Gragg directed the offense with 47 assists, 13 digs, four blocks and one ace. Her double-double was the 14th of her career and second this season.
- Chloe Nussbaum led the Spartans defensively with 18 digs and matched her career high with 10 assists. Nussbaum's double-double marked the third of her career and first this season.
- Connore' Siler-Nixon led the team with seven blocks and added seven kills.
- UNCG finished with 70 kills, 68 digs, seven aces and nine blocks.

The Spartans will begin The Southern Conference (SoCon) campaign in Greensboro by hosting Western Carolina on Friday, Sept. 25 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3:00 p.m. inside Bodford Arena.
All regular season home matches are free admission. For Friday's match, the first 100 UNCG students will receive a free cooler. Saturday's match will be Volleyball Club Night and there will be postgame autographs.
