GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, to face The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe The Citadel Bulldogs on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. on Washington Light Infantry Field.
 
The two teams played to a 1-1 draw last season in Greensboro. The Spartans have the advantage in the series with a 24-0-2 record.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS

• The Spartans concluded the 2025 season 4-12-3 overall and 2-4-3 in The SoCon.
• The Blue & Gold tallied five shutouts and scored 22 goals, which is the most since the 2022 season.
• The Spartans were voted to finish seventh in the 2026 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 43 points.
• Senior midfielder Rina Ogimoto was named to the 2026 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
• Ogimoto started in all 19 games last season for the Blue & Gold with a total of 1,465 minutes. She notched a team-best six goals and 14 points, along with two assists, during the 2025 campaign.
• The Spartans added nine newcomers to a roster of 18 returners.
• Sophomore Laney Smith is leading the Spartans' offense with 11 points (4G, 3A).
• Classmate Madison Bass and Ogimoto are second on the team with five points, both scoring two goals and one assist.  
• Freshman Summer Kaufman is second with two helpers, while junior Avery Barr is the only other Spartan with multiple goals this season, scoring two.
• Freshman goalkeeper Blythe Clark has played in 810 minutes, totaling 33 saves and allowing 14 goals.
• Clark is ranked second in the SoCon in minutes played (810), fifth in shutouts (2) and total saves (33).  
• Smith is fourth in the SoCon in total assists and ninth with four goals.  
• The Spartans opened 2026 with a 1-0 victory over Triad rival High Point, marking their first season-opening win since 2023.
• UNCG claimed its second shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Radford at home on Aug. 30.

ABOUT THE BULLDOGS

• The Citadel concluded the 2025 season 5-9-3 overall and 2-5-2 in the SoCon.
• The Bulldogs were voted to finish 10th in the 2026 Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• The Citadel most recently lost to Chattanooga, 3-0, but defeated VMI, 5-3, to open the SoCon slate.
• The Bulldogs have four shutouts this season.
• Jasiah Pack and Samantha Grantham each have scored seven goals this season.
• Pack leads the team with 19 total points, adding five assists, while Grantham has chipped in three helpers for 17 total points.
• Zoe Santos has played in 824 minutes this season, giving up 11 goals and totaling 38 saves.
• Grantham and Santos were named SoCon Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Sept. 1.
• The Citadel is outscoring opponents in goals, 28-11, and have the advantage in corner kicks, 39-32.

UP NEXT
The Spartans are set to host Tennessee Tech next Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6:00 p.m., before welcoming Mercer on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1:00 p.m. Both games are at UNCG Soccer Stadium and all regular season home games are free admission.
