SoCon Announces Volleyball Players of the Week
 
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior outside hitter Allie Sweet of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, announced by the league office Monday.

Sweet recorded 40 kills, three service aces, four assists, 23 digs, 7.0 total blocks and 47.5 points to lead UNCG to go 2-0 against Western Carolina in the opening week of SoCon play.

In seven sets played, Sweet averaged 5.71 kills per set, 3.29 digs per set, 1.00 blocks per set, 6.79 points per set and posted a .315 hitting percentage. In addition, she notched back-to-back double-doubles, marking 31 in her career and eight this season.

The Woodstock, Georgia, native currently stands out in the top five among national rankings, including kills (1^st/252), points (1^st/294.0), attacks per set (1^st/13.42), total attacks (2^nd/698), kills per set (4^th/4.85) and points per set (5^th/5.65).

As a team, the Spartans are currently second in the SoCon in three categories, including assists per set (12.25), hitting percentage (.226) and kills per set (13.38). UNCG went 2-0 in week one of conference play and currently has the best winning percentage in the league at .692.

The SoCon weekly award is Sweet's sixth of her career and second this season. In addition, it is the fourth weekly award for the Spartans this year as Izora Gragg has earned SoCon Setter of the Week twice this season (Aug. 31 & Sept. 7).

The Spartans will look to begin their SoCon road slate, traveling to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to face Wofford on Friday, Oct. 2 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 3 at 4:00 p.m. inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
