CLEMSON, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team earned a three-set sweep over App State, 3-0 (30-28, 25-18, 26-24), on Saturday afternoon at the Clemson Invitational inside Jervey Gymnasium.
The 3-0 victory marks the first sweep of the season for the Spartans. The last time UNCG notched a straight-set victory was in the 2025 regular season finale against Wofford on Nov. 15 inside Bodford Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – UNCG opened on a 4-1 run and built a 14-7 advantage following a block from
Hailey Clifton and
Connore' Siler-Nixon. The Spartans extended their lead to 20-14 behind a pair of
Allie Sweet kills, but App State responded with six-straight points to even the score at 20. UNCG regained momentum with three consecutive points, including back-to-back Mountaineer attacking errors, for a 23-20 edge. After App State fought back to take a 27-26 lead, Sweet tied the set with a kill before
Izora Gragg served an ace to put the Spartans ahead, 28-27. App State leveled the score once more, but
Kendall Lanclos and Sweet delivered consecutive kills to clinch the 30-28 victory.
Set 2 – The Spartans broke a 3-3 tie with a 3-0 run and never trailed again. A Siler-Nixon ace pushed the lead to 9-5 before Gragg added an ace during a 5-1 stretch that made it 12-6. UNCG continued to pull away with kills from Lanclos, Sweet and Siler-Nixon, building a 19-12 advantage. App State trimmed the margin to 23-18 late, but Clifton's kill gave UNCG set point before Clifton and
Akila Hardie combined for a block to secure the 25-18 win.
Set 3 – App State controlled the early portion of the frame and led by as many as six, 18-12, before the Spartans began their comeback. UNCG chipped away at the deficit with kills from Sweet, Siler-Nixon and Clifton, cutting the margin to 22-18. The Mountaineers reached set point at 24-19, but the Spartans answered with eight unanswered points. A Lanclos-Hardie block started the surge, while two App State attacking errors and three Lanclos kills tied the score at 24.
