SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Redshirt junior midfielder Caleb Borneo of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team was named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.

A transfer from Akron in his first season with the Spartans, Borneo has made a name for himself in Blue & Gold over the team's last two outings. Earning his first start of the season at Davidson on Sept. 1, Borneo rewarded Head Coach Chris Rich's trust with a first-half goal for the Spartans in an eventual 2-2 draw against the Wildcats.

Returning to the starting lineup on Sept. 5 at Dayton, the native of Morgantown, West Virginia, again found the back of the net in the opening half to finish off a slick attacking move from the Spartans in a 1-1 result with the Flyers. He finished the week with two goals on three total shots, his first points with UNCG after coming off the bench in the side's opening three games.

Borneo is now one strike away from matching his 2025 tally with the Zips, finishing last season with seven points thanks to three goals and an assist. His four points through five games this season have him as UNCG's second-highest scorer after fellow transfer Keaviano Francis, the previous SoCon Offensive Player of the Week.

"I'm happy to get the award this week. I feel like these last two games on the road we've become a much more cohesive and dangerous team," stated Borneo. "I'm looking forward to getting out to South Carolina and hopefully winning a massive game on the road."

The Spartans have now had a player earn SoCon weekly recognition in all three weeks to begin the season. Trym Linberg was the first, taking home Defensive honors to begin the year, and now Francis and Borneo has continued the trend with consecutive Offensive titles. All three players have been first-time weekly honorees.

At 1-0-4, the undefeated Spartans are on the road for a third-straight contest on Friday night against the No. 13 Gamecocks in Columbia, South Carolina. Kickoff from Eugene E. Stone III Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
