2008: Made four appearances for the Spartans as a redshirt freshman...did not record a decision in four relief efforts...pitched 3.0 innings and struckout one batter...had a 3.00 ERA after only allowing one earned run...did not allow a run in his last three outings.

 

2007: Redshirted the 2007 season.

 

High School: Local product from Northeast Guilford High School in McLeansville... played for coach David Lawing... named all-conference for the Rams... was an all-state wrestler and swimmer... member of the National Honor Society, Finance National Honor Society, Beta, honor roll and was a scholar-athlete award... also played for Greensboro Palemino for five seasons for coach Brad White.

 

Personal: Joseph Ian Phillips... born December 20, 1988 in Durham, NC... son of Tim and Linda Phillips... father is a Charlotte graduate... mother graduated from Duke... brother Harrison is a senior at Northeast Guilford High School and sister Lauren is a senior at UNCG... was also recruited by Charlotte... majoring in business finance at UNCG.
