Ahmad Thomas

Ahmad Thomas

Ahmad Thomas, a Danville, Virginia native, joined the Spartans in August 2022 and came for his first foray on a collegiate staff. Previously, Ahmad was the Associate Head Coach of Team Loaded North Carolina, a premier grassroots basketball program. While working for Team Loaded NC, he helped countless young men reach their dreams of playing college basketball. His primary responsibilities included coaching, recruiting, player development, organization, and travel logistics.

Thomas was a four-year standout for UNC Asheville where he finished his career as the only player in Big South men's basketball history with over 1,500 points (1,626), 700 rebounds (705), 250 steals (251) and 250 assists (256). Ahmad still ranks as the all-time leader in steals for the Bulldogs. He was the two-time Big South Defensive Player of the Year and two-time First Team All-Big South performer.

"My relationship with Ahmad dates back to his high school days, at GW Danville," said Jones. "I recruited him, and unfortunately, he chose to play at UNC Asheville. Because of that, I had the opportunity to coach against him for four years in the Big South. During that time, I saw him grow as both a player and a leader. During his time with Team Loaded, Ahmad showed an ability to impact the lives of the young men he worked with and truly push them forward as people. I'm looking forward to him doing the same on our team."

After his time as a Bulldog , Thomas played three years of professional basketball overseas. He played in Luxemburg, England, Finland, and Canada before returning to North Carolina, to begin working with Team Loaded NC.
