Former Spartan Kevin Oleksiak has returned to the university to serve as the program's Director of Men's Basketball Operations for the 2009-10 season.
Named to his post this past August 4, Oleksiak played part of last season in France before returning to the United States. He sat in on some of the team's practices and games as a volunteer in the latter part of the season. He takes the place of Ben Thompson, who was hired as an assistant coach at Division II St. Leo University.
"We are excited that Kevin has agreed to join our staff," said Dement. "He played some overseas but now has become interesred in coaching. I think he has a bright future. He certainly can be very valuable in that he can pass on many lessons learned from his recent playing days here and in the SoCon
A native of Abbington, PA, Oleksiak scored 1,015 points in his UNCG career, ranking No. 15 all-time on the Spartan career scoring list. He is in the top 10 in steals, three-point attempts, three-pointers made, and free throw percentage. His 119 games played are tied for the most in school history and holds the single-game school record for three-pointers in a game with nine and steals with seven.
Oleksiak, who graduated in 2008 with a degree in recreation, parks and tourism, assumes his duties this month. He will be responsible for practice planning, coordinating team travel and assist in film exchange.
