Stephen Borchik is in his 11th year with UNCG Sports Medicine in 2025-26.
Borchik has served as an assistant athletic trainer since the 2018 season with the Blue & Gold. He worked as a graduate intern for the sports medicine department from 2017-18 and began his UNCG tenure as a Sports Medicine Graduate Assistant from 2015-17.
Throughout his time with UNCG Athletics, Borchik has impacted the Sports Medicine department in various ways. Outside of providing medical coverage for UNCG student-athletes, he organizes on-campus physician clinics, physician coverage of home athletic events and retrieval of physician dictations. He maintains inventory and orders supplies for multiple departments, while executing the upkeep of disinfection protocols.
Borchik assisted with the data collection for a study informing NCAA on injury rates in college men’s soccer. He served as the medical host for the 2021 and 2022 SoCon Softball Tournaments and was the medical lead for the NCAA DIII Soccer Championships in 2019 and 2021 and host in 2017. He has impacted the day-to-day well-being of UNCG student-athletes, providing Spartans with the necessary treatment to perform in each of their sports.
At the 2026 Spiros Awards, Borchik was awarded the Cathy Roberts’ Legacy Award for his impact on UNCG Athletics and the significant role he plays in student-athletes’ lives.
Prior to coming to Greensboro, Borchik served as the Head Athletic Trainer for PT Solutions in the summer of 2018. While with Tampa Bay United, he provided medical coverage for over 1,600 athletes across three campuses, while also developing and implementing site-specific emergency action plans for all three locations.
Borchik began his career as an Intern Athletic Trainer for Anclote High School under the University of Florida SMART Institute from July 2014 to May 2015. He provided sole practice game and treatment coverage for the academic year. In addition, he facilitated communication between administration, coaching staff, players and physicians regarding care and student-athlete outcomes.
He earned a Master of Science in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine from UNCG in 2017 and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from The University of South Florida in 2014.
