Ido Singer finishes his third season as assistant coach for UNCG women’s basketball in 2020-21, joining the Spartan staff in August, 2018. Singer has over 10 years of basketball coaching experience as a scout, assistant and head coach.
The Spartans clinched their first regular season conference title since 2002 during the 2019-20 campaign, going asfar as the SoCon tournament finals during their postseason run. UNCG went 21-8 on the year with a 10-4 conference record, the most overall wins the team has had since that title run in 2002. UNCG's 13 home wins were just a single victory shy of tying a program record, as the Spartans led the conference in field goal percentage (42.9), field goal percentage defense (36.8), free throw percentage (77.1), scoring defense (55.3), scoring margin (+8.7) and three-point field goal percentage defense (28.3). Nadine Soliman and Te'ja Twitty both earned SoCon All-Conference honors under Patterson in 2020, with the former receiving First Team honors and the team's first-ever Player of the Year recognition. The Spartans' scoring defense ranked 16th in all of Division I women's basketball during that campaign.
The Spartans made a run toward a unifying title in Asheville during the 2019-20 season, reaching the Southern Conference Tournament final against No. 1 Samford. The Spartans defeated both No. 6 ETSU and No. 7 Mercer in the quarterfinals and semifinal respectively, coming up four points shy of their first trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament since 1998.
Working with the Spartans’ post players, Singer helped Twitty earn All-Southern Conference Second Team honors in both 2018-19 and 2019-20. Twitty ranked second in the league in rebounding at 7.9 rebounds per game while being one of the most efficient scorers with a .500 field goal percentage (fifth-best and 60th in D-I) during her junior year. She placed eighth in scoring (12.5 ppg), and did even more damage on the offensive glass, ranking second in the SoCon at 3.7 per game. She led the team with eight double-doubles despite missing three nonconference games.
Twitty set a new program career record in 2019-20 season, bringing her double-double total to 27 in her senior campaign. Her 953 career rebounds are a Spartan Division I program record and rank third in UNCG history all-time, while her 543 field goals made are third in Spartan Division I history.
Singer served as the head coach of the NAIA school Fisher College (Mass.) from 2016 to 2017 and brought the team to a 12-14 record during the 2016-17 season, which was the highest total wins for the women's basketball program. He helped guard Aliyanah McIntosh earn Second-Team All-Conference, and the Association of Independent Institutions Newcomer of the Year award.
Singer also served as a head girls basketball coach for Mass Huskies AAU from 2015 to 2016, coaching multiple teams, as well as having an active role in Huskies player development training and camps.
Previously Singer was the director of operations at UMass Lowell for the 2014-15 season. He was responsible for the daily program operations including his involvement with practices, the coordination of team travel, meals, and recruiting.
In 2013 Singer was the women’s basketball assistant coach at Nichols College in Dudley, Mass. Along with coaching at Nichols, he became the boys’ program director and girls’ and boys’ basketball coach for the MT Elite AAU program.
As the head coach of Heschel High School in New York from 2009-12, Singer brought the team to their first postseason appearance in 10 years. In June 2011, he founded an elite basketball skills development service, IdoBasketball, that has conducted over 100 skills clinics in the New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts areas. The basis of the programs is specialization in cutting edge techniques and approaches to skill development through the improvement of footwork, agility and balance.
Singer played professional basketball from 1996 until 2003 for Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Israel, as well as a few other teams. Playing in the Israeli League, he was a part of a Maccabi Tel Aviv team that won the 1996 championship. He spent 2002-2003 serving as a pro scout in Israel, as well.
Singer earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Capella University in Minnesota.
