In 2021, the Spartans had a program-best 21 match turnaround from the previous season. The 23 wins are the third most wins since joining DI volleyball. Nine of the 23 wins came from inside Fleming Gymnasium. In the Spartan’s first 13 matches, Cirillo helped lead them to an 11-2 start, the best program start in the DI era. Three players surpassed career milestones this season: Jenna Wiggs (1,000 digs), Gabriela McHugh (2,000 assists), Kayla White (1,000 digs & 1,000 kills). Cirillo assisted the program to a share of its first regular-season conference title with a 3-1 win over The Citadel.

In her second season with the Spartans, Cirillo assisted in coaching Kayla White, who earned the title of 2021 Southern Conference Player of the Year. White led the conference in service aces (48), aces per set (0.44), points (528.5), total attacks (1,341), and kills (449). She earned Player of the Week honors four times and Player of the Month honors twice. Along with her Payer of the Year award, White was a NCAA Women of the Year Finalist, Top 30 Senior CLASS Candidate, AVCA All-Region honorable mention, AVCA All-American honorable mention, and CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Cirillo also worked with the setters, including Gabriela McHugh. McHugh earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team. She led the conference in assists and assists per set with 1,207 and 10.41, respectively. She surpassed the 2,000 career-assist mark in a 3-0 sweep over Chattanooga. She set a career-high of 58 assists in a 5-set battle over The Citadel. McHugh also earned the SoCon Setter of the Week honor four times.

Nicole Cirillo joined the UNCG volleyball staff for her first season in 2020, joining the Spartans after four-plus years as the Head Coach at South Dakota State University.

During her time at SDSU, Cirillo guided five Jackrabbits to postseason honors, including three All-Freshman and two All-Summit League selections. She coached 37 Summit League Academic Honor Roll athletes and 24 Summit League Commissioner's List honorees, while leading the Jackrabbits to three AVCA Team Academic Awards while in Brookings.

Prior to her time with SDSU, Cirillo spent six years as the Associate Head Coach at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. IUPUI won three straight Summit League regular season titles with Cirillo on staff, with 14 Jags earning All-Conference honors over that period. Reaching the conference tournament finals in three successive years, IUPUI reached the NCAA Championship tournament for the first time in program history during the 2013 campaign. While playing under Cirillo the Jags received two Summit League Setter of the Year honors, two Defensive Player of the Year honors and a Freshman of the Year nod.

During five years as an assistant coach at Missouri Southern State (2004-09), Cirillo worked directly in the development of the squad's middle blockers, helping MSSU reach the South Central Regional Tournament and a top-25 American Volleyball Coaches Association ranking in 2006. She also coached the Lions' first-ever All-American, while leading the side to its best record in program history in 2006 (23-12).

Cirillo was also the club director for the Ozarks Juniors Volleyball Club from 2004-09, and served as a head coach for several USA Volleyball Juniors teams. She was a captain and First Team All-Region selection while playing two seasons at Southwestern Illinois College, finishing her career at the University of Central Arkansas, where she also served as team captain. She helped the Sugar Bears to a 2003 Gulf South Conference tournament appearance, graduating from UCA with a bachelor's in management information systems ('04), and later earning her M.S. in administrative studies from Missouri State ('06).
