JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Freshman Cara Hammond provided all the offense UNCG would need and the duo of Angie Rudy and Jennifer Stillman made it stand as the Spartans held off East Tennessee State, 1-0, in the Southern Conference opener for UNCG. With the win, the Spartans up its record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the SoCon.

Hammond beat an ETSU defender and scored what would become the game-winning goal in the 53rd minute.

The Spartans out-shot the Buccaneers, 13-6. Rudy and Stillman combined for their fourth shutout of the season. UNCG has registered shutouts in all four victories this season.

The Spartans have now captured all eight meetings with ETSU. UNCG has outscored the Bucs, 57-2, in the all-time meetings.

UNCG returns to action Sunday afternoon at Appalachian State. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. The Spartans lead the all-time series, 5-0.
