Furman Edges Spartans, 2-1

GREENVILLE, SC – The Furman women's soccer team edged UNC Greensboro, 2-1, in Southern Conference soccer action Thursday night at the Eugene E. Stone Soccer Stadium. Furman improves to 6-4 overall, 4-0 in the SoCon, while UNC Greensboro drops to 3-5-2 overall, 1-1 in the SoCon.

“Our girls didn't stop competing throughout the whole match,” said UNCG head coach Eddie Radwanski. “We continue to show progress on the field every game.”

Furman struck first at the 32:16 mark, when two-time SoCon Player of the Year, Emily Turgeon scored off a feed from Danielle Petro. The goal was Turgeon's sixth of the season.

The Paladins would take a 2-0 lead in the second half, when April Raymer scored her first goal of the season on a corner kick at the 52:20 mark.

UNCG would get on the board at the 73:35 mark when freshman Devin Beachum (Raleigh, NC) took a pass from her sister Dacia, beat two Furman defenders and fired a shot that landed in the far left corner of the net. The goal for Beachum was her second of the season.

The Spartans return to action on Sunday, October 5, against SoCon foe College of Charleston at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. Furman travels to Charlotte to take on the 49ers on Saturday at 7 p.m.
