Liberty Defeats Women’s Soccer, 4-0

LYNCHBURG, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team was shutout in a 4-0 contest to non-conference foe Liberty on Thursday night at Osborne Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Liberty took control of the opening portion of the game, tallying four shots and two corner kicks within the first 19 minutes of play. Taylor Mentzer had a chance on net, but she was blocked by the Lady Flames' defense at the top of the 18-yard box in the 16th minute. Liberty's Ivy Garner found the bottom right corner of the net at 19:25 to give the Lady Flames the 1-0 advantage. After much back and forth, the Lady Flames capitalized on a turnover giving Presley Kaiser an opportunity to find the back of the net at 43:13 for a 2-0 lead.

With just over 10 minutes of play into the second half, Garner slipped the ball to the bottom left corner for her second goal of the game, extending the Lady Flame's lead to 3-0. Less than a minute later, Garner was able to put away her third goal at 56:29 unassisted. During the remaining minutes, the shots were even at four between the two teams. With less than 30 seconds left, Liberty was called for a foul at the top of the 18-yard box and UNCG's Bryanna Parkes lined up for the free kick, but it was blocked by the defense, giving the Lady Flames the victory.
