CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team fell in a 3-2 battle with Charlotte on Sunday night at Transamerica Field in Charlotte, North Carolina.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams were very evenly matched in the first half, Charlotte held the slight possession percentage in the first frame by 52 percent. In addition, the Niners posted three shots in the first 45 minutes, while UNCG recorded two. However, heavy defense kept both team scoreless heading into the break.
The offense was elevated coming out of the half, Chalotte struck first in the 48
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. However, after a handball from the Niners,
Rina Ogimoto successfully netted in a penalty kick to tie things up 1-1 in the 50
th minute. The Niners retaliated with a couple more goals in the 72
nd and 81
st minutes to take a 3-1 advantage.
Becca Graeser was able to take one final goal thanks to a Charlotte defensive miscue, making it 3-2 in the 85
th minute. Both teams continued to battle back-and-forth in the final five minutes. However, Charlotte snuck away with the 3-2 victory.
