Spartans Down Georgia Southern, 5-0

GREENSBORO, NC – Sophomore Amy Carnell (Lake Stevens, WA) scored a pair of goals to help the UNCG women's soccer team defeat Georgia Southern, 5-0 in Southern Conference women's soccer action, Friday night at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. With the win, UNCG improves to 10-6-2 overall, 8-2 in the SoCon, while Georgia Southern falls to 5-13-1, 1-8-1 in the SoCon.

The win for the Spartans clinches the second seed in next week's SoCon Tournament, which will be hosted by UNC Greensboro.

"Our kids played very well tonight", said head coach Eddie Radwanski. "I'm quite pleased that we came out aggressive, got an early goal and built the momentum for tonight." We did a real good job knocking the ball around and creating chances. Again, our team defending tonight was very good."

After a goal by Carolyn Lindsay at the 14:41 mark to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead, sophomore Cara Hammond notched her third goal on the season off a feed from senior Tracey Withrow to give UNCG a 3-0 lead at intermission.

Sophomore Dacia Beachum increased the UNCG lead to 4-0 at the 60:32 mark when she took a pass from senior Cheryl Stewart a knocked it in the back of the net.

UNCG sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Stillman recorded two saves on the evening in recording her seventh shutout of the year. Georgia Southern keeper Kari Gast posted 10 saves on the game for the Eagles.

UNCG will close out the regular season at Davidson, Sunday November 2 at 2 p.m. Georgia Southern will travel to Elon to take on the Phoenix on Sunday at 1 p.m.
