CULLOWEE, NC -- Kevin Martin scored 37 points to lead Western Carolina to a 75-63 victory over UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference men's basketball action on Saturday in the Ramsey Athletic Center.

With the loss, UNCG slips to 6-16 on the season and 2-8 in Southern Conference action. Western Carolina improves to 7-14 and 4-6 in league play.

The story in the first half of play was Western Carolina's Kevin Martin. Martin, who scored the Catamount's first 16 points of the game, connected on all eight field goal attempts for 22 points. Martin led the Catamounts to a 16-9 early lead, but UNCG battled back and tied the game at 27-27 on Ray Bristow's second 3-pointer of the first half. Western shot 61% from the field to take a slim 31-29 lead into the intermission.

Clinging to a seven point lead in the second stanza, 50-43, Martin picked up his fourth foul. With Martin on the bench, UNCG quickly cut the lead to one, 52-51, on a Josh Gross tip-in with six minutes left in the half. With the Catamounts holding a five point advantage, 63-58, James Maye buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key to cut the lead to two, 65-61. Western countered with a pair of buckets from Alex Osipovitch, sandwiched around an offensive foul on the Spartans to extend its lead to six.

Ray Bristow paced UNCG with a new career-high 22 points. The freshman from Winston-Salem hit 9-of-15 from the floor. James Maye was the only other Spartan to reach double-figures. The Kennesaw, GA, scored 11 points. Josh Gross was a spark off the bench tonight with eight points and six rebounds.

In addition to Martin's 37 points, Emre Atsur added 12 points. The Catamounts shot 56.8% from the floor and 46.2% from behind the 3-point line.

UNCG returns to the hardwood again on Wednesday, February 11. The Spartans host Davidson at the Greensboro Coliseum. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
