Greenville, NC - In a thrilling five-game match, UNC Greensboro defeated Radford, 26-30, 30-24, 30-25, 16-30 and 15-11, in the fourth match of the City Hotel & Bistro Pirate Invitational.

UNCG's LaJean Morrow had a tremendous all-around effort to lead the Spartans to victory, posting her first double-double of the season with 19 kills and 15 digs. Morrow also registered four block assists and two service aces. Radford had four players with double figures in kills. Divona Cox, Tiffany Guthrie and Sarah Gates all had 14 kills while Kate McHugh added 11 kills.

The Spartans jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, before Radford rallied to tie the match at 2-2 after game four. In game four, Guthrie and Gates combined for 10 kills to lead the Highlanders to the 30-16 win and force game five.

The Radford rally would be short-lived, however, as UNCG took a 6-5 lead in pivotal game five after trailing 5-3. The Spartans were able to take advantage of two attacking errors by Guthrie, before Kim Dayton punctuated the UNCG rally with a kill. Radford retook the lead 9-8 on an error by UNCG's Abbi Meyer. After UNC Greensboro tied the game, 9-9, two kills by Morrow sparked a 6-2 run giving the Spartans their first match win of the season.

"The team was in control today," said head coach Stacy Meadows-Kosciak. "Especially in game five under a pressure situation, they handled themselves well and that is what we expect from this team."

Adrian Hicks had 27 assists for UNC Greensboro and Dayton added 14 digs. Danielle Rynd had a double-double for the Highlanders with 41 assists and 13 digs. Allison Ainsley had 20 digs for Radford.

The Spartans will close out play at the City Hotel & Bistro Pirate Invitational Saturday afternoon versus Lipscomb at 5pm.
