Softball Splits Two Games On Day Two Of The Seahawk Classic #$%^

Wilmington, NC – The UNC Greensboro softball team split a pair of games Saturday at the 2004 Seahawk Classic hosted by UNC Wilmington. The Spartans opened the day with a loss to Wright State, 4-0, before regrouping to down UMBC, 8-7.

In game two versus UMBC, UNCG received an abundance of offensive production from several key players including Joni Gomez who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while driving in one. Jennifer Hubbard drove home three runs with her lone hit and Danielle Byrne registered her first career home run in the victory. Christina Montana and Lynsi Pierce also recorded multi-hit games for the Spartans.

Lynsi Pierce tossed six strong innings for the victory, her third of the season, while freshman Vanessa Oakes closed the door in the seventh for her first career save.

Against Wright State, Oakes was saddled with the loss despite a solid outing. Gomez, Bonilla and Byrne all tallied one hit, but the offense failed to muster a run en route to the loss.

The Spartans are now 6-1 on the season and will return to action Sunday in the championship bracket of the 2004 Seahawk Classic.
