Charleston, SC – The UNCG softball team closed out play in the 2004 Charleston Southern  Invitational, Sunday, with two victories in three games. With the victories, the Spartans finished the tournament 4-1 and are now 12-2 on the season.

UNCG opened the day with a 7-3 loss to Eastern Illinois. Danille Byrne was saddled with the loss despite a solid effort, while Jennifer Bonilla and Jennifer Hubbard each tallied home runs. Christina Montana and Kelly Allen also recorded two hits for the Spartans.

The Spartans rebounded nicely with a 6-2 victory over fellow Southern Conference member Furman in game two. Vanessa Oakes earned the victory for UNCG with another brilliant pitching performance. Adrianne Audley and Joni Gomez paced the squad with two hits each.

In the final game of the day, Lynsi Pierce blasted a solo home run in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie, propelling the Spartans to a 3-2 victory over conference host Charleston Southern. The home run was Pierce's second of the game as she led the Spartans with two hits.

UNCG will return to action on March 3, as the Spartans visit Charlotte for a doubleheader.
