UNCG-Georgia Southern Box Score

Charlotte, NC – The UNC Greensboro softball team fell to Georgia Southern, 1-0, Sunday on the final day of action from the 49er Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte. The Eagles then defeated Charlotte, 5-2, to capture the tournament title.

With the loss, UNCG moves to 16-8 on the year heading into the team's home opener against Virginia on Wednesday at Campus field.

Georgia Southern scored the lone run of the contest on a passed ball, allowing the base runner to score from third, unearned. Vanessa Oakes was the hard-luck loser for the Spartans tossing seven innings without giving up an earned run. The loss drops Oakes to 7-4 on the mound this season.

Christina Montana, Joni Gomez, Jennifer Hubbard and Danielle Byrne all posted hits for the Spartan, as UNCG out-hit Georgia Southern 4-2, but left nine runners on base.

The Spartans closed out play at the 49er Invitational with a 2-2 mark after picking up victories over Mount St. Mary's, 3-2, and James Madison, 1-0.

After opening the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday against Virginia, UNCG will return to the road to participate in the highly competitive Buzz Classic hosted by Georgia Tech. Play begins at the Buzz Classic on Friday, March 19 and continues through until Sunday, March 21.
