Marietta, GA – The UNC Greensboro softball team picked up two victories, Saturday, on day two of the 2004 Buzz Classic hosted by Georgia Tech. UNCG opened the day with a 5-1 triumph over Miami (OH), before downing UNC Wilmington, 6-3.

With the victories, the Spartan improve to 18-10 on the season and close out play in the Buzz Classic with a 2-2 mark.

In game one versus Miami (OH), the Spartans got a standout offensive performance from freshman Kara Clouser who posted three runs batted in, while going 1-for-3 at the plate. Reigning Southern Conference Player of the Week Joni Gomez chipped in with two hits and one RBI and Jennifer Bonilla went 2-for-3.

The five runs posted by the Spartan offense would prove to be enough, as Danielle Byrne tossed seven innings to earn her fourth victory of the year, allowing just one run on four hits.

In game two, freshman Vanessa Oakes tossed a complete game seven-hitter for her team-leading eighth victory of the season, as the Spartans downed UNCW, 6-3. Oakes allowed just one earned run, while striking out six.

Offensively, Jennifer Hubbard joined three other Spartans in posting a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs batted in. Gomez, Lynsi Pierce and Vanessa Massie also tallied two hits each, while one of Massie's two hits was a solo home run.

UNCG will return to action on Wednesday at 2 pm against Radford in the team's 2004 home opener.
