Boone, N.C.—Jennifer Hurley allowed one run on four hits, and struck out eight, on her way to a 5-1 complete-game victory for Appalachian State University over UNC Greensboro, Sunday afternoon, in Southern Conference softball action.

Hurley (6-9) allowed a double to the first batter of the game, but settled down after a fielder's choice, and struck out the next two batters to escape unscathed. The Mountaineer pitcher struck out at least one Spartan batter in each of the first six innings in the complete game triumph.

UNCG (24-21, 5-7 SoCon) pitcher Danielle Byrne took the losing decision. Byrne (8-9) tossed six innings, allowing five runs on six hits, but only two runs were earned in the loss.

In the Mountaineer half of the first inning, leadoff hitter Lindsay Glover knocked a solo home run over the high left field fence, giving the Mountaineers a 1-0 advantage.

In the third inning, Appalachian posted four runs to stretch the lead to 5-0. After the leadoff hitter was retired, Wendy Lewis reached on a fielding error and Glover followed with a single. Lewis was plated on Mary Lutz's ground out. Glover scored on a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 advantage. With two outs, Diana Cook and Christa Hicks both singled. Sarah Gough followed with a single to right field scoring both Cook and Hicks.

After Hurley induced the first two Spartan batters of the seventh inning to fly out, Vanessa Massie homered to left field to break up the shutout bid and set the final count at 5-1.

Jennifer Hubbard registered two of UNCG's four hits on the day, while Vanessa Massie and Adriane Audley chipped in with one each.

Appalachian (15-27, 4-11 SoCon) leadoff batter Lindsay Glover led the offense, going 2-for-3, with an RBI and two runs scored. Sarah Gough knocked two RBIs in the third inning for ASU.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday afternoon. Appalachian continues its home stand with a doubleheader against Gardner-Webb that begins at
