GREENSBORO, NC– The UNCG Greensboro volleyball team ended a two-game skid with a 3-0 win over Davidson in Southern Conference volleyball action Sunday afternoon in Fleming Gym.
Kaitlyn Nortz led UNCG (12-10, 5-3 SoCon) tallying 15 kills and hitting .448 over the three games. Sophomore Emily Lindborg tallied 10 kills and hit .471 for the match, her third best hitting percentage this season. Nortz also tied her season-high with nine blocks.
Sarabeth Peele led the way for Davidson (6-14, 1-6 SoCon) with 10 kills while Lindsay Woeste recorded a team-high nine digs. Setter Hayley Lawson dished out 21 assists in the loss.
Nortz logged six kills in the first frame to lead UNCG to a 30-17 win. The game was close through the first several points and was tied at 10-10 but UNCG went on an 8-0 run to pull ahead 18-10 and never looked back, taking a 1-0 match lead.
Davidson logged their best game of the match in the second frame and managed to keep the score close throughout and was never more than a few points off the lead. The Wildcats had back-to-back kills from Lawson and Peele to take a 24-23 lead, but a 7-1 UNCG run to close out the game put the Spartans ahead 2-0.
Despite multiple kills from Davidson's Kittery Neale and Katie Pierucci in game three, the Spartans defeated the Wildcats 3-0 with a 30-16 win. UNCG dominated the Wildcats in every statistical category and managed to hold Davidson to a -.019 hitting percentage for the match. UNCG recorded 10 team blocks and hit .231 for the match. The Spartans also recorded a match-high nine service aces.
The Spartans are next in action October 13-14 when they head to Chattanooga, TN and Cullowhee, NC for SoCon matches with Chattanooga and Western Carolina.
