DAVIDSON, NC Greg McNamara scored 4:20 into the second half for the only tally of the night as Davidson topped UNC Greensboro, 1-0, in Southern Conference men's soccer action Wednesday night.
In the SoCon opener for both teams, McNamara took a through ball by Machel Turner and knocked it home from eight yards out for what would wind up being the only score of the night.
Matt McElroy recorded one save for Davidson (2-7-1), which snapped a five-game losing streak. Nate Berry had four saves for UNCG (3-6-1), which lost its third straight match. The Wildcats held a 15-5 advantage in shots, including 12-4 in the second half.
The Spartans dropped their SoCon opener for the second-straight year and are now 6-5-1 all-time in SoCon openers. Davidson snapped a four-game losing skid against UNCG, beating the Spartans for the first time since the 2004 Southern Conference Tournament.
UNCG continues Southern Conference play on Saturday when it visits Furman for a 7 pm start.
