Storylines

• UNCG plays its only home game in a six-week span Wednesday afternoon when the Spartans host Akron. UNCG is in the midst of playing six of seven games away from the friendly confines of Fleming Gym. The Spartans have won 34 of their last 37 non-league games at Fleming Gym.

• UNCG is playing on New Year's Eve for the first time since Dec. 31, 2005 when it hosted top-ranked Duke at the Greensboro Coliseum in front of a crowd of 22,124. All-time, the Spartans are 1-3 when playing on the final day of the calendar year.

• It has been a tale of two halves for the Spartans this season. The opposition has shot 44.7 percent from the floor in the first half and 51.6 percent in the second half this season. On average, UNCG is giving up 34.9 points in the first half and 41.3 in the second.

• UNCG and Akron have not met since the mid 1990's when UNCG swept a home-and-home series (47-44 at Akron in Dec. 1994 and 82-57 here at Fleming in Dec. 1995).

• UNCG has 10 scholarship players in uniform this season. All 10 entered the game in the first eight minutes of the contest in the first two games this season.

• If UNCG's probable starting line-up holds, it will be UNCG's ninth different starting line-up in 10 games this season. All 10 scholarship players on the active roster have started at least one game thus far and none have started every game.

• Junior forward Mikko Koivisto enters tonight's game with a 3-pointer in 33 consecutive games - the second-longest streak in school history. His last game without a trey came back on Dec. 4 at Virginia Tech. It is also the third-longest streak in the nation through Monday night's action.

• In four of the seven losses this season, UNCG has allowed 40 or more points in the paint. The opposition has also had 20 or more points off of turnovers in eight of the nine games (1-7 record in those contests).

• UNCG announced on Dec. 5 that it will move its home games to the Greensboro Coliseum beginning next season. The arena will be modified to a seating capacity of 7,613 for most home games, with at least two expandable options being available. The full capacity of the venue is 23,500.

• UNCG's seven-game losing skid is its longest since 2003-04 when it lost eight in a row.

Mikko Koivisto has made 74 of his last 82 at the foul line going back to the latter half of his freshman season and is now 98-115 from the line for his career (85.2%).

• UNCG has two active players climbing the career 3-point field goal lists. Mikko Koivisto has 158 entering tonight (sixth), while Kendall Toney has 115 (11th).
