UNCG, Davidson play to scoreless tie in SoCon men's soccer action

Box Score

DAVIDSON, N.C. – UNCG goalkeeper Peyton Ford and Davidson keeper Chip Sanders each had eight saves as the Spartans and Wildcats played to a scoreless tie in Southern Conference men's soccer action Saturday night at Alumni Field.

Sanders recorded his third straight shutout for the Wildcats (5-4-5, 1-2-2). The Spartans (5-5-3, 1-1-2) played their second straight tie after playing College of Charleston to a 2-2 deadlock. It was Davidson's second straight scoreless tie, having tied Furman 0-0 on Tuesday night.

The Spartans nearly broke the tie twice in the second half. Eli Garner's shot had to be stopped by a Davidson defender 12 minutes into the second half. Later, with just under 10 minutes left in regulation time, Michael Bonilla's shot clanked off the post.

UNCG held a 20-18 advantage in shots and 6-4 in corner kicks on the night. Three of UNCG's four SoCon matches have now needed to go into extra time this season.

UNCG returns home to face Wofford on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
