CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga remained undefeated in Southern Conference play Sunday, completing a three-game sweep of UNCG with an 8-0 win in 5 innings.
The Spartans (17-21, 6-6 SoCon) were held to just two hits on the afternoon.
Chattanooga (29-9, 11-0 SoCon) got the only runs it would need in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Tiffany Baker and Della Harrison.
Jordan Jewett would get UNCG's first hit in the second inning, rapping a single to right center with one out. She was stranded at first, however.
The Lady Mocs missed a chance to add more in their half of the second, but UNCG starter Josie Felix struck out Baker to leave the bases loaded.
Aisha Figueroa would reach on a bunt single in the fourth inning, but that would be UNCG's final hit of the day. She did reach third, however, as Chattanooga tried to double her off on a popup but threw the ball into the dugout.
After allowing the hit to Figueroa, reliever Nikki Waters retired the last UNCG batters in order.
Chattanooga, meanwhile, blew the game open in the fourth on Fuzzard's three-run home run, a blast off the scoreboard in left center.
The Lady Mocs would put the run rule into effect the following inning, getting an RBI double from Vivian Morimoto and an RBI single from Jessica Traxler to make it 7-0. Chattanooga would load the bases on a walk and a single before UNCG could get the first out of the inning, forcing Traxler at home on a fielder's choice. Lauren Flores then came in on a wild pitch to end the game at 8-0.
Sara Poteat, Harrison and Flores had two hits each for the Lady Mocs.
Fuzzard (14-5) picked up the win, allowing just one hit in 3 innings. Waters worked the final 2, allowing just one hit.
Felix (5-9) took the loss, allowing two runs on six hits in 3 innings. Hanks was tagged for six runs in an inning of work, while Cory Mattson finished the game in the circle for the Spartans.
UNCG returns to action Wednesday when it will face its fourth ACC opponent of the season in North Carolina. First pitch for the doubleheader is set for 5 p.m. in Chapel Hill, N.C.
