GREENSBORO, N.C. –
Senior Lauren Hein (Torrance, Calif./South Torrance) scored two second half goals to give UNCG women's soccer a comeback victory against The Citadel, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.

With the victory the Spartans improve to 6-6 overall and a 3-1 record in the SoCon. The Citadel falls to 3-7-1 with a 1-2-1 mark in the SoCon.

"I want to give The Citadel a ton of credit," said head coach Steve Nugent. "I knew we had a tough challenge coming into today's game. That was a huge win for us and that type of win builds character for our team."

The Bulldogs lead 1-0 for nearly 73 minutes before Hein fired a perfect shot into the upper right corner to tie the match at 1-1. Senior Karin Sendel (Kiryat Tivon, Israel/Ort Kiryat Bialik) played Hein with a pretty pass to setup the tying goal.

Less than four minutes later, Hein headed home her second goal of the game off a nice cross from freshman forward Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin). Hein was able head the ball just over the keeper to give the Spartans the sudden lead.

"The first goal was a great pass from Karin and I just wanted to get the shot off," said Hein. "The game-winning goal was a nice setup from Chesney who picked her head up and played a great ball that I had to finish it."

Freshman keeper Jamie Simmons (Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) made two saves and only had to deal with one shot in the second half.

In the first half, the Spartans held a 6-to-3 advantage in shots but a late goal from The Citadel's Mariana Garcia gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

UNCG had a couple of opportunities as White made a run down the left side and crossed a ball into the box that Hein touched the ball just wide of the net.

The Spartans finished the game with 15 shots, including a 9-to-1 advantage in the second half against The Citadel.

UNCG heads to South Carolina to face Furman Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and the Spartans end their road trip against Wofford Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2 p.m.
