GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG junior Chelsea Sumney (Washington, Pa./Trinity) was named the Southern Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. Sumney set the school record in the 5,000-meter race at the prestigious Flotrack Husky Classic last week at the Dempsey Indoor Track in Seattle

Sumney, running in the fourth and final heat of the 5,000-meter race, posted a time of 16:50.84 to break her own record set last season at the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field championships. She trimmed four tenths of a second off her previous best time of 16:51.25.

Sumney and the Spartans return to action at the 2013 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 23-24 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
