Women's Soccer Earns Four 2014 SoCon All-Conference Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Four UNCG women's soccer players were selected All-Conference highlighted by junior Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) named to the Southern Conference first team, announced by the league office Tuesday.

Sophomores Rebecca Burrows (Auckland, New Zealand/Mount Albert Grammer School) and Georgia Brown (Dunedin, New Zealand/St. Hilda's Collegiate) were selected to the SoCon second team. Redshirt freshman Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg/Penn State) made the SoCon All-Freshman team.

“We are very excited for these players to receive these tremendous awards,” head coach Michael Coll said. “They deserve them and they have been fantastic for our team this season. It has been a challenging year dealing with so many injuries to the squad but these four players have started almost every game and performed great consistently throughout the season.”

The coaches selected an 11-member All-Conference first team, an 11-member All-Conference second team as well as an 11-member All-Freshman team and individual awards. They were not allowed to vote for their own players or themselves.

White earned her third career All-Conference selection after making the 2013 SoCon second team and All-Freshman team in 2012. The Franklin, Tenn. native led the team and was tied for 10th in the nation with 15 goals, which is tied for fifth best in school history. White finished with 37 points (15 goals, seven assists) and had six game-winning goals helping UNCG finish in fifth place. In her three seasons, White hasn't missed a game starting 60-straight games. She was a SoCon Player of the Week and a SoCon Player of the Month in September.

Burrows picked up her second career All-Conference selection after earning All-Conference second team in 2013. Burrows started all 20 games for the Spartans playing in the midfield and at defender. The Auckland, New Zealand native finished with two goals and two assists on a career high 16 shots. Burrows helped UNCG earn shutouts against Chattanooga and at Western Carolina.

Brown was selected to the All-Conference second team as a defender and marks her second career All-Conference honor after making the 2013 All-Freshman team. Brown started all 20 games at defender and in the midfield. Brown dished out a career high four assists and helped UNCG earn five shutouts on the season, including conference opponents Chattanooga and at Western Carolina. Three of her four assists came against SoCon teams and Brown finished third on the team in minutes.

Buehler wraps up the All-Conference awards for UNCG after being named to the 11-member All-Freshman team. Buehler, a transfer from Penn State, played in 18 of the 20 games making 16 starts in goal. She finished with 87 total saves, which is eighth best in school history and had three shutouts. The Perrysburg, Ohio native had eight games with five or more saves, including a season-high 13 at Mercer helping UNCG earn a 1-1 draw.

Stephanie DeVita was named the league's player of the year and ETSU's Garazi Murua was the freshman of the year, while Samford's Todd Yelton was the coach of the year.
