Women's Basketball Drops Road Game at St. Bonaventure

Box Score ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Despite senior forward Jarae Savage (Marietta, Ga./North Cobb) matching her career high with 19 points, the UNCG women's basketball team fell to St. Bonaventure, 78-60, Wednesday night at the Reilly Center.

The Spartans fall to 4-7 on the season and the Bonnies improve to 8-3 on the season. Savage earns her second straight double-double scoring 19 points (8-of-19) along with 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Lucy Mason (Stone Mountain, Ga./Chamblee Charter) scored 14 points (5-of-11), hitting double figures for the 10^th time this season. Senior guard Jessica Collins (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield/Eckerd College) added 10 points with four rebounds and five assists.

UNCG forced 22 St. Bonaventure turnovers leading to 24 points for the Spartans. The Blue and Gold also had 11 steals and went 7-of-18 from three-point land.

The Bonnies shot 12-of-18 in the second half and were 57.1 percent from the field overall at 28-of-49 shooting. UNCG was held under 40 percent at 33.3 (23-of-69).

Savage came off the bench scoring 11 first-half points but the Spartans trailed 38-34 at halftime. Harris added six points on 3-of-4 shooting.

St. Bonaventure came out with a 8-0 run to start the game off three layups and a jumper just four minutes into the half. UNCG responded with a nice 14-3 spurt to take a 14-11 advantage after a jumper from Harris.

Both teams would trade buckets back and forth but sophomore Jade Scaife (Fort Washington, Md./Archbishop Spalding) hit a jumper to push UNCG's lead to 22-18 with 9:08 remaining in the period.

The Bonnies would go on a 6-0 run to retake the lead at 27-25 off a layup from Mariah Ruff with 5:21 on the clock. Sophomore Bailey Williams (Harrisonburg, Va./Spotswood) hit a jumper to tie the game at 29-29 but St. Bonaventure would make a run heading into intermission.

St. Bonaventure would open up a 36-29 lead after a 7-0 run but the Spartans would cut the deficit to just four after a three pointer from freshman Keli Foster (Hampton, Va./Bethel) and a jumper from Harris. Two free throws by the Bonnies' Imani Outlaw would make the score 38-34 at the break.

In the second half, UNCG cut the lead to one at 44-43 after a layup from Savage with 16:43 left in the contest. The Bonnies would go on a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 51-45 at the 14:31 mark.

Savage would hit two free throws to make the score 53-49 but St. Bonaventure would go on another run. During a seven minute stretch, the Bonnies would score 12 unanswered points to pull away from UNCG at 65-49 with under five minutes left.

The Spartans would only score 11 points the rest of the game falling to 2-5 in road games.
The Blue and Gold return home to face Livingstone Saturday, Dec. 20 at noon at Fleming Gymnasium.
