Women's Soccer Hits the Road for SoCon Action Friday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team (3-7-2) travels to Furman (8-4-0) for the first road game of the Southern Conference season Friday night. Fans can watch the game live on the SoCon digital network. Live stats will also be available and kickoff is slated for 7 pm.

As the Spartans and Paladins enter their 28th meeting in program history, UNCG holds a 14-11-2 series lead. However, since 2010 the two teams are even at 2-2-1. Friday night the Spartans make their first trip to Greenville, S.C., since 2012 when they tied Furman 1-1 in double overtime. Seven matchups between the two have gone to overtime, with UNCG winning three, losing two and finishing with two ties.

The Spartans are coming off a 3-1 home loss to ETSU Sunday afternoon that put UNCG at 1-1 overall in SoCon play. Senior Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) scored UNCG's only goal in the loss while goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) made 10 saves. White leads the SoCon in shots taken with 36 while Buehler is second in saves with 58 through the first 12 games of the Spartans season.

Furman's 1-0 win over Chattanooga Sunday was the first league win of the season for the Paladins. Furman is 1-1 and is tied for the conference lead in shutouts (5). Stephanie DeVita leads the league with eight goals this season. She accounts for 47 percent of Furman's goals while adding two assists for a team-best 18 points. In goal for the Paladins, Maggie Grisell has prevailed. She's held opponents to eight goals in over 800 minutes played averaging 0.9 goals against. Additionally, Grisell has only allowed multiple shots to go past her twice this season.

Friday's match is the first of a four-game road stretch for the Spartans. Following Furman, UNCG will travel to Wofford, Chattanooga and Samford before finally retuning home Oct. 16 to host Mercer.
