GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG baseball team heads over to Chapel Hill Tuesday evening for a nonconference matchup against No. 17 North Carolina at Boshamer Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game marks the first meeting between the Spartans and Tar Heels since April 24, 2012 when UNCG downed UNC by an 8-4 margin.
The Blue and Gold is coming off of a big road series win at Mercer over the weekend to keep itself in the mix for the Southern Conference regular season title. UNCG has jumped up to second in the league with a .295 batting mark and is 44th nationally in the latest release of the NCAA statistics. The Blue and Gold is also fourth in the nation in home runs per game (1.14) and 14th in total home runs (44) after slugging six long balls at Mercer.
Brian Miller paces the North Carolina offense with a .337 batting average as the Tar Heels are hitting .268 as a team. UNC has a stingy pitching staff that ranks 56th nationally in earned run average (3.41) and 27th in strikeouts per nine innings (8.6).
The Tar Heels lead the all-time series over UNCG by a 16-5 count. The Spartans are 2-3 against schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference this season with wins over NC State and Wake Forest.
