CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The UNCG softball team fell short in its second elimination game against Western Carolina, 6-1, Thursday night at the Southern Conference Tournament at Jim Frost Stadium.

The Spartans finish the 2015 season with a 25-22 record earning three-straight winning seasons for the first time since 1994.

Jordan Garret improved to 16-15 with the victory throwing a complete game and allowed just one earned run with four strikeouts. Garrett went 3-0 against the Spartans this season with a 0.61 ERA over 23 innings pitched.

Junior Allison Geiner (Raleigh, N.C./Middle Creek) went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles. She finished the 2015 season with a .407 average breaking the single-season school record set by former teammate Katelyn Bedwell (.401) in 2014.    

Sophomore Tory Wright (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) had three hits, including a solo home run in the loss.   

Western Carolina jumped ahead in the first inning off a two out two-run home run from senior Heather Chastain. With two outs, Kara Salvo singled up the middle and Chastain lined her fifth home run of the season to left field. 

UNCG cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning after Wright blasted a solo home run to right center giving her a career-high eight on the season.  

The Catamounts scored another run with two outs after a RBI single from Karley Harkey in the bottom of the second. Amber Kimrey doubled to right center with two out. Harkey lined a tough hop to second base allowing Kimrey to score from second.

WCU added a insurance run in the bottom of the fifth off a RBI groundout by Victoria Mariscal. Kimrey singled to start the inning and moved to second off a stolen base. After a walk, Abigail Daniels laid down a sacrifice bunt to put runners on second and third. Mariscal picked up her 22nd RBI with the groundout to second base.

In the sixth inning, Western Carolina took a 6-1 lead after Taylor Sigmon hit a two-run home run to left field.

The Spartans had a chance in the seventh but couldn't push across any runs leaving nine runners in scoring position.
