Women's Soccer Hosts Elon Sunday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team returns to action Sunday night as the Spartans host former conference rival Elon. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. The game will be streamed for free in full HD on the SoCon Digital Network with links available at www.uncgspartans.com.

The Spartans are coming off their second win of the season Thursday and their most impressive performance as they travelled to NC State and knocked off the Atlantic Coast Conference foe 2-0. The victory marked the Spartans' first over an ACC opponent since a win at Wake Forest in 2012.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) posted her second shutout of the season and the fifth of her career in the victory over the Wolfpack. Buehler recorded seven saves against the Wolfpack and also was aided by her defense, which posted two team-saves late in the second half. She has played every minute in goal this season and has an 1.82 goals against average.

Junior forward Diarra Simmons (Toronto, Canada/Dayton) and senior Candice Forbes (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) lead the team with two goals apiece. Both Simmons and Forbes found the back of the net against NC State.

Sunday's game marks the first meeting between UNCG and Elon as non-conference opponents as the two teams did not meet last year in Elon's first year outside the SoCon. The Spartans own a commanding 17-1-1 record all-time against the Phoenix, but the teams are 1-1-1 against each other in the last three meetings. The teams last met in the 2013 regular season finale, posting a 2-2 double overtime tie against each other.

Elon enters Sunday's game with a 5-1-0 a record on the season and is coming off a 1-0 victory over Coastal Carolina Friday evening. The Phoenix have also picked up wins over Davidson, Chattanooga, North Florida and South Carolina State while falling to NC State by a 2-0 score.

Elon has scored 10 goals through six games while only allowing two goals against, all coming in the loss to the Wolfpack. All five of the Phoenix wins have come by shutout. Elon has split time between two goalkeepers this season with Taylor Mohr playing 270:00 minutes and has not allowed a goal while Hanna Macaulay has played 272:10 in goal and has allowed two goals for a 0.66 goals against average.

Three different Phoenix players have found the back of the net twice this year. Kelly Siewers leads the team with five points while Tori Bailiatico and Kendall Ballotti are second with four points each.
