Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG women's soccer team (3-7-2, 1-1-0) lost its first Southern Conference game of the season to ETSU (7-4-0, 2-0-0) Sunday afternoon. The Spartans solo goal was scored by Chesney White (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin) who tallied her second goal of the season in the loss. Sunday's match wrapped up the five-game home stand for UNCG that began September 13 versus Elon. The Spartans will now hit the road for a pair of SoCon matches at Furman and Wofford this weekend.
East Tennessee scored its first goal in the 12th minute when Simona Koren poked the ball through the Spartan defeanse on a cross from Molly Collinson giving the Bucs a 1-0 lead. The ETSU offense did not back down in the opening frame but were unable to get anything past UNCG's goalkeeper Chloe Buehler (Perrysburg, Ohio/Penn State) who made six saves as the Buccaneers fired of 19 shots while holding the Spartans to just four. Additionally, ETSU had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks before the break.
Just over a minute into the second half Sarah Zadrazil gave ETSU a two-goal lead when she chipped in the ball from 20-yards out on the left side. Collinson and Koren each put a foot on the ball in the midfield, both earning an assist on the goal.
Koren tallied a second goal in the 59th minute, which put East Tennessee ahead 3-0. The Spartans got on the board in the 67th minute when a White header found the back of the net off a corner kick that Gabbi Charles (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) took. UNCG had two huge opportunities in the final twelve minutes but offside calls on both plays burned down the Spartans momentum.
Buehler made 10 saves in the loss as the Bucs outshot UNCG 28-9. This was the most saves Buehler had made since her season-best 11 against Elon September 13.
The Spartans turn their attention to Furman Friday, October 2 for their first SoCon road match of the season. It marks the first of a four-game road stretch for the UNCG.
