GREENSBORO, N.C- The UNCG softball team (13-10) split a pair of games against UNC-Wilmington and Presbyterian Saturday afternoon. Lindsay Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) went four-for-four with a two run home run in the Spartans 7-2 win over the host Seahawks. Presbyterian silenced the Spartans bats in game two as UNCG fell 3-0 while Hagan Kiser (Asheboro, N.C./Southwestern) recorded the only hit of the game for the Blue & Gold.

After a scoreless first inning for the Spartans in game one, the bats came alive for a five run top of the second inning. Sidney Grkman (Salisbury, N.C./Jesse Carson) led things off followed by a fielder's choice for Kiser to place two runners on with no outs.

Senior Allison Geiner (Raleigh, N.C./Middle Creek) loaded the bases with an infield bunt. Two Spartans would cross the plate on a pair of Seahawk errors as Rebecca Kale (Hudson, N.C./South Caldwell) reached on a fielder's choice.  Kendall McKinney (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) had a RBI groundout to make it a 3-0 ballgame and Thomas then drove in two more runs for a five run lead with a home run to left field before UNCW was able to escape the inning.

Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) worked a quick bottom half of the inning allowing just one hit before the Spartans got back to work in the top of the third. After a one-out double to right center for Thomas, Marisa Sholtes (Albany, N.C./South Colonie Central) drove in the senior designated player with a single to right field for a 6-0 lead.

UNCW got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth on three hits and one Spartans error but UNCG added an insurance run on the next frame when Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) singled up the middle with runners in the corners for a 7-2 lead.

Stephanie Bryden (Orlando, Fla./East River) came in to relieve Bazonski in the final inning of play and worked a one, two, three inning to secure the Spartans win.

Bazonski earned the win to improve to 7-2 overall tossing six innings allowing two unearned runs and striking out four batters.

Grkman and Geiner joined Thomas with multi-hit games while five difference Spartans recorded hits as UNCG extended its win-streak to five games.

In the second game of the day, Bryden went the distance allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits in six innings of work. She struck out six batters in the loss, just one strikeout off of tying her career-high for the second time this week.

Back-to-back throwing errors by UNCG in the bottom of the first inning proved to be costly, as PC would score to take a 1-0 lead. Erin Ruff made it a 3-0 ballgame with a two-run home run a batter later.

Presbyterian's Katie Brown held UNCG to just one hit, by Kiser in the top of the second inning. She struck out just two Spartans in her sixth win of the season with no walks and two hit by pitches.
