Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNCG softball team (29-20, 6-6 SoCon) fell to ETSU, 4-1, in the series finale Saturday afternoon. The Spartans take the conference series two games to one as the Bucs advance to 17-16 overall and 6-6 in SoCon play. Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) was a triple shy of the cycle in the loss and accounted for the Spartans only run, a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Stephanie Bryden (Orlando, Fla./East River) (11-11) was delt the loss after throwing three and a third innings allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out three.
Both teams went scoreless in the first two innings but in the bottom of the third ETSU took a two-run lead with a bases loaded double by Cowart.
An inning later ETSU added two more runs on a two-run home run by Knoetze for a 4-0 lead. Alicia Bazonksi (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) came in to relieve Bryden with one out in the fourth after Knoetze's homer.
Bazonski got the second out of the inning but the Bucs worked the bases loaded before UNCG's sophomore ace was able to escape the inning with no further damage done.
Vega hit her solo home run in the top of the sixth inning but UNCG was unable to do anything more, falling to ETSU by a three-run deficit.
Lindsay Fadnek held UNCG's batting lineup to just three hits, all recorded by Vega who went 3-for-3 with a single, a double and a home run.
Despite falling in the finale, UNCG takes the series 2-1 and improves to .500 in Southern Conference action.
