Softball Falls to Former SoCon-Rival Georgia Southern, 3-0

Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. – UNCG softball suffered a 3-0 loss to former SoCon-rival Georgia Southern at Eagle Field on Friday evening.  The Spartans fall to 1-1 on the season.  Georgia Southern, playing in its season opener, is now 1-0.

Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) started and tossed 5.0 innings, allowing just three hits, one run, and striking out a batter.  Kylie Bouplon (Wilson, N.C./Forsyth County Day) made her second appearance out of the bullpen, logging one inning, giving up a pair of runs.

UNCG's offense mustered one hit in the contest.  Tory Wright (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) connected for a single in the first inning, but the Spartan offense couldn't solve the riddle of GSU's Dixie Raley.

Georgia Southern was able to break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Shelby Wilson was walked and came around to score on an Andrea McKenzie double to the fence in left center field.

The Eagles extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth frame.  A lead off single from India Davis started the frame.  Lydia Witkoswki put two runners in scoring position after a double before Emily Snider drove both in with a single to center field.

UNCG is back in action tomorrow morning at 11:30 against No. 15 Tennessee.
