BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Down four runs with three innings to play, UNCG gave Campbell a scare but was unable to complete the comeback against the Fighting Camels, falling 4-3 Wednesday night.

Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) was saddled with the loss, moving to 5-5 on the season. The righty threw all six innings for UNCG, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, striking out four.

The Fighting Camels got on the board first, plating a run in the third when Abby Perryman legged out an infield single up the middle, scoring Madison Herring from third.

Campbell tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning, stringing together four straight singles to open the frame. However, Bazonski settled down from there to retire the next three batters and stop the bleeding.

UNCG came right back in the top of the fifth to bring the deficit back to a single run. With the bases loaded, Emily Acquaviva (New Hartford, N.Y./Stony Brook) scored on a wild pitch and a few batters later Marisa Sholtes (Albany, N.Y./South Colonie Central) smoked a single up the middle to bring Jasmine Palmer (Lake Biltmore, N.C./Florida State) and Rachael McClaskey (Pine Hill, N.J./Overbrook) around.

Unfortunately the Spartans were not able to complete the comeback, falling to .500 on the season at 7-7.

UNCG returns to action this weekend at the Bailey Memorial Tournament in Kennesaw, Georgia. The Spartans open the tournament on Friday at 10:00 a.m., taking on UAB.
