WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Greensboro men's basketball will conclude a three-game road swing to start the season on Tuesday night against UNCW at Trask Coliseum.
First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on UNCW's athletics website.
Five Facts To Know
--The Spartans narrowly fell to No. 23 LSU on Friday evening, as UNCG lost by a final score of 97-91. While UNCG trailed by as much as 18 in the second half, hot shooting from downtown propelled a furious comeback in the final minutes before the Spartans lost by six. UNCG made 19 three pointers in the contest, becoming only the third team to hit that mark in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center alongside North Florida (2015) and Florida (2016). The 19 made threes were also the second-most for UNCG in a single game. The Spartans hit 20 three pointers against Chattanooga on Feb. 21, 2013.
--Speaking of three-point shooting, Francis Alonso inched closer to setting the new program benchmark on Friday evening, as the Malaga, Spain, native hit five threes against LSU. Alonso (305) is now just five threes away from surpassing Scott Hartzell (309).
--Junior forward Kyrin Galloway was feeling it on Friday night, as he had a memorable night against one of college basketball's top teams. Galloway smashed his previous career-high in points, as he scored 32 points on 12-of-14 shooting. In the second half, Galloway made all nine of his attempts, seven of which were from behind the arc.
--Through Sunday's action, junior forward James Dickey (eight) is tied for the third-most blocks in the country. Dickey needs just one more block to move into fourth place for career blocks in program history.
--UNCW enters the game with a record of 0-2, falling to Campbell and Stanford. In the Seahawks' overtime loss to Campbell, Camels guard Chris Clemmons scored 44 points – the most by a player so far during the young season.
The Spartans In 2018
Through two games, UNCG is 1-1 on the season as the Spartans defeated North Carolina A&T in the opener before falling to No. 23 LSU on Friday. Against North Carolina A&T, the Spartans trailed by one point at halftime by a strong defensive performance in the second half fueled a comeback victory by a final of 74-66. Three days later, UNCG put up a fight against LSU before losing 97-91.
Alonso currently leads the team in scoring, as he's averaging 21.5 points per game while Galloway is also averaging more than 20 points per contest. Isaiah Miller, meanwhile, is averaging 14.5 points off the bench.
Series History
Tuesday's game will be the eighth meeting between the Spartans and Seahawks dating back to their first matchup that took place on Nov. 23, 1990. UNCW holds a 4-3 advantage in the series but the Spartans won the last matchup, a 71-58 victory last December.
Upcoming For The Spartans
The Spartans will play their next two games at the Greensboro Coliseum, starting with Friday's home opener against Johnson & Wales. That will be followed by a matchup with Prairie View A&M on Nov. 19.
