Men's Basketball Hosting Johnson & Wales In Home Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. – After three road games to open the 2018-19 season, UNC Greensboro men's basketball will return to the Greensboro Coliseum on Friday, hosting Johnson & Wales in the home opener.

First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network

Five Facts To Know
--Senior guard Francis Alonso is just three made three pointers away from setting a new program record. The Malaga, Spain, native has made 307 threes so far in his career. Only Scott Hartzell (309) has made more threes in a career at UNCG.

--Alonso (1,571) is also just four points away from surpassing James Maye (1,574) for the third-most points scored in UNCG history. Kyle Hines (2,147) has scored the most points in program history followed by Jay Joseph (1,646).

--Junior forward James Dickey, meanwhile, needs just one more block to move into sole possession of fourth place in career blocks. He is currently tied with Jonathan Clifton (122) for the fourth-most blocks by a Spartan in program history.

--Last season, UNCG went 16-1 in home action. The 16 wins set a new program record.

--Johnson & Wales enters the game with a 2-2 record so far this season, scoring victories over Clinton College and Toccoa Falls. The Wildcats are led in scoring by Majerle Poole, who is averaging 11.8 points per game.

The Spartans In 2018
UNCG (2-1) started the season with three road games in tough environments, as the Spartans were able to notch victories over in-state rivals North Carolina A&T and UNCW while hanging tough with No. 23 LSU before falling in high-scoring battle. 

On Tuesday evening, the Spartans saw their 16-point halftime lead over UNCW dwindle to just three points midway through the second half before ending the game on a massive run to secure a 82-61 victory. The 21-point margin was the largest in the series between UNCG and UNCW.

Through three games, Alonso leads the team in scoring at 20.3 points per game followed by Kyrin Galloway at 17.7 points per game. Galloway also leads the team in rebounding at seven per game.

Series History
Friday evening's game will mark the first meeting between the two schools.

The Spartans next game will also take place at the Greensboro Coliseum with UNCG hosting Prairie View A&M on Nov. 19.
